映画「ひゃくえむ。」感想：栄光と挫折、そして「逃げる」ことの深みについて

映画「ひゃくえむ。」を見て素晴らしかったのでブログに感想を書く（話の内容に触れるのでご注意を）。公式サイトによるあらすじは次のとおり。

生まれつき足が速く、「友達」も「居場所」も手に入れてきたトガシと、辛い現実を忘れるため、ただがむしゃらに走っていた転校生の小宮。 トガシは、そんな小宮に速く走る方法を教え、放課後2人で練習を重ねる。 打ち込むものを見つけ、貪欲に記録を追うようになる小宮。 次第に2人は100m走を通して、ライバルとも親友ともいえる関係になっていった。 数年後、天才ランナーとして名を馳せるも、勝ち続けなければいけない恐怖に怯えるトガシの前にトップランナーの一人となった小宮が現れるー。

私はスポーツ、特に陸上は全然わからないけれど、映画で描かれた、栄光と挫折に心を動かされるものがあった。この映画は作り物に過ぎないけれども、選手一人一人が人生をスポーツにかけて、それでもままならない現実に向き合う姿をうまく描いていたと思う。

トガシと小宮の対比

主人公のトガシは負け無しの神童で実業団選手にもなるけれど、トップオブトップにまでは登りつめることができず所属企業から契約更新してくれるか怯える選手に収まっている。その一方で、小学生のころ走りを教えてあげた旧友の小宮はトップ選手になっており、大きな差をつけられてしまった状況である。

もっと子ども向けの作品ならば、その旧友の小宮を主人公に据えてトップ選手に登りつめるまでのサクセスストーリーを描くのだろう。ただ、大人である我々は、スポーツにおいて、どんなに才能をもっていても上を目指せば競争相手も同様に才能の塊であって、成功はたやすくはないこと、成功よりも挫折をあじあうことのほうがずっとおおいこと、を知っている。トップになれない選手の苦悩や挫折を描くと爽快感は減じるだろうけれど、むしろスポーツが持つ奥深さが表現できて、よいと思う。

キャラクターたちが織りなす見せ場

トガシと小宮がメインキャラクターだが、その他にも見せ場のあるキャラクターが何人も登場していたのがよかった。元スター選手ながら無理を押した結果、故障して陸上から離れていたが主人公に説得されて競技に復帰した仁神、日本記録を持ち、とらえどころのない天才型として描かれ学生時代の小宮が低迷から浮上するキッカケを与える財津、財津に長らく挑みながら勝てずに万年２位にとどまっていた海棠である。

特に、海棠が、百メートル走は不都合な現実から逃げる行為であるとの哲学がよかった。逃げる、というのは一般的には辛い現実から目をそらす行為を指すけれど、海棠のいう逃げはそうではない。客観的に見れば、目標とする財津には差をつけられ、さらに悪いことには年齢を重ねるなかで有望な若手が立ちはだかる、という冷徹な現実がある。その厳しさを直視しつつも、諦めずに自分を信じて勝機を狙う行為を、彼は「現実からの逃げ」と呼んでいる。海棠にとって、「逃げ」とは自分に不利な状況を主体的に変えようとする行為なのだ。これに、すごく共感した。

逃げるというメタファーの意義

走る行為を「逃げる」と比喩するのは自然とも言えるけれど、私の解釈では、徒競走の選手でなくても、このメタファーは使えると思う。

現実を冷静にみれば、立ち向かっても勝てるとは限らないことも多々あるだろう。ただ、その厳しい状況を正確に認識したうえで、自分を信じて逃げれば、暗い現実から脱して、幸せを掴むこともあるのではないか。「逃げるが勝ち」という言葉もあるのだから。

スポーツが描く清々しさ

最後になるが、この映画は構成もよかった。この映画はスポーツの挫折を描いていると書いたが、実は登場人物が思い悩むシーンが長くなく、むしろ挫折からの立ち直りを中心に描いているのでストレスに感じることがない。

例えば主人公は、高校進学時にスランプを感じて陸上から離れているが、スランプの過程は特に描かれておらず、高校で仲間を見つけて陸上に戻ることが主に描かれる。もう一人の小宮も、人生に強い息詰まりを感じて走ることに没頭する様子が描かれるが、息詰まりを覚える背景は特に触れられるわけでもない。悪意を持った人物が、誰かを傷つける、という描写もない。

したがって爽快感に溢れるサクセスストーリーではないものの、特に重苦しい作品というわけでもなく、スポーツに心血を注ぐ選手たちからある種の清々しさを感じ、よい気持ちで見終えることができる。

Review of the Movie "100 Meters": On Glory, Setbacks, and the Depth of "Running Away"

I watched the movie 100 Meters and it was so wonderful that I wanted to write my impressions on my blog (please note that this touches on the plot details). The synopsis provided by the official website is as follows:

Togashi, who was born fast and has always had "friends" and a "place to belong," meets Komiya, a transfer student who runs frantically to forget the painful reality. Togashi teaches Komiya how to run faster, and the two spend their after-school hours practicing together. Finding something to pour himself into, Komiya becomes greedy to chase records. Gradually, through the 100-meter dash, the two develop a relationship that can be described as both rivals and best friends. Years later, Togashi, who is famous as a genius runner but is terrified of having to keep winning, encounters Komiya, who has become one of the top runners.

I know nothing about sports, especially track and field, but I was moved by the glory and setbacks depicted in the film. Although this movie is nothing more than a fiction, I think it successfully portrays how each athlete dedicates their life to sports and confronts a harsh reality that still does not go their way.

Togashi and Komiya: Their Contrasting Paths

The protagonist Togashi is an undefeated prodigy who even becomes a corporate athlete, but he fails to climb to the very top and ends up as an athlete who is anxious about whether his affiliated company will renew his contract. On the other hand, his old friend Komiya, whom he taught how to run when they were elementary school students, has become a top runner, resulting in a huge gap between them.

If this were a more child-oriented work, it would probably feature that old friend Komiya as the protagonist to portray a success story of climbing to the top. However, as adults, we know that in sports, no matter how much talent one has, if one aims for the higher levels, the competitors are equally masses of talent, success is not easily achieved, and experiencing setbacks happens much more often than success. Depicting the struggles and setbacks of athletes who cannot reach the top might reduce the sense of exhilaration, but I think it is rather good because it expresses the profound depth that sports possess.

Fascinating Supporting Characters

Togashi and Komiya are the main characters, but it was good that several other characters with highlight scenes appeared. There was Jinjin, a former star athlete who pushed himself too far and got injured, leaving track and field, but was persuaded by the protagonist to return to competition; Zaitsu, who holds the national record, is depicted as an elusive genius type, and gives the student-era Komiya a trigger to rise from his slump; and Kaido, who had long challenged Zaitsu without being able to beat him and remained stuck in second place forever.

In particular, Kaido's philosophy that the 100-meter dash is an act of running away from an inconvenient reality was great. "Running away" generally refers to an act of looking away from a painful reality, but the escape Kaido talks about is not that. Objectively speaking, there is the cold reality that he is left behind by his target Zaitsu, and to make matters worse, promising young athletes stand in his way as he ages. While facing that severity head-on, the act of aiming for a winning chance while believing in oneself without giving up is what he calls "running away from reality." For Kaido, "running away" is an act of proactively changing unfavorable circumstances for himself. I sympathized with this very much.

"Running Away" as a Metaphor for Life

It might be natural to compare the act of running to "running away," but in my interpretation, this metaphor can be used even if you are not a sprinter.

If you look at reality calmly, there are many cases where even if you stand up against it, you may not necessarily win. However, once you accurately recognize that severe situation and escape by believing in yourself, you might break away from the dark reality and seize happiness. After all, there is a saying that "he who runs away lives to fight another day."

A Structure That Leaves a Refreshing Aftertaste

Lastly, the composition of this movie was also good. I wrote that this movie depicts sports setbacks, but actually, the scenes where the characters worry are not long; rather, since it focuses mainly on recovery from setbacks, it does not feel stressful.

For example, the protagonist feels a slump upon entering high school and temporarily steps away from track and field, but the process of the slump is not particularly depicted, and returning to track and field by finding friends in high school is mainly portrayed. Another character, Komiya, feels a strong sense of deadlock in life and is shown immersing himself in running, but the background of feeling that deadlock is not particularly touched upon either. There is also no depiction of a malicious person hurting someone.

Therefore, although it is not a success story overflowing with exhilaration, it is not a particularly heavy work either; you can finish watching it with a good feeling, feeling a certain refreshingness from the athletes who pour their heart and soul into sports.

平行と垂直

映画の「平行と垂直」を見に行こうと思う。

自閉症の障害を抱えた兄とその妹の物語で、聞くところによると兄役の安田章大さんが脚本に感銘を受けて、企画段階からかなり真剣に取り組まれたようだ。

正直に言うと、この手の話を必ずしも積極的に視聴してきたわけではない。ただ、同じように障害を扱ったものでも、もっと扇情的で刺激的な作品と言われる「みいちゃんと山田さん」の映像化が決定し、ほうぼうから批判を受けている話を聞いた。障害を扱う対照的な二作品を比較して、冒頭の「平行と垂直」を見ることを決めた。

「みいちゃん」を読んだり見たりする予定はないので、特に言及することもないのだけれど、仮に障害を扱った不道徳な面があったとしても、不道徳な作品は世に溢れていて、それを楽しむ人も大勢いることは避けられない。表現の自由や多様性を守るためには、思想や作品のダークな側面を許容することも含まれるのかもしれない。

ただ、やっぱり社会にとって、そういう作品にだけ注目が集まるのは不健全で、真摯に障害に向き合った作品にもっと目が向けられたほうがよいだろうと思う。私としては、自分にとって好ましいと予想される作品を応援することで、世に対する意見表明としたい。

たぶん扱うテーマ的に、すごく興行収入があがる作品ではないと思うけれど、兄役の安田章大さんはSUPER EIGHTという人気グループの一員らしいし、のんさんは私でも知っているくらいの方だから、社会にとってよい影響を与える作品になることを期待したい。

Parallel and Perpendicular

I am thinking of going to see the movie "Parallel and Perpendicular."

It is a story about an elder brother with autism and his younger sister. From what I hear, Mr. Shota Yasuda, who plays the brother, was so moved by the screenplay that he engaged with the project very seriously right from the planning stage.

To be honest, I have not necessarily been proactive about watching stories of this kind. However, I heard that a film adaptation was announced for "Mii-chan and Yamada-san"—a work also dealing with disability, but said to be far more sensational and provocative—and that it has been drawing criticism from all over. Comparing these two contrasting works dealing with disability led me to decide to watch the aforementioned "Parallel and Perpendicular."

Since I have no plans to read or watch "Mii-chan," I have no particular comment to make on it. That said, even if a work possesses immoral aspects in its portrayal of disability, immoral works abound in the world, and it is inevitable that many people enjoy them. Protecting freedom of expression and diversity might well entail tolerating the darker aspects of ideas and creative works.

Still, it feels unhealthy for society if attention is drawn exclusively to such works, and I believe more light should be shed on works that earnestly confront disability. For my part, I wish to express my stance to the world by supporting a work that I expect to find commendable.

Given its subject matter, it may not turn out to be a massive box-office hit. Nevertheless, since Mr. Shota Yasuda, who plays the brother, is reportedly a member of the popular group SUPER EIGHT, and Non-san is someone famous enough that even I know her, I hope this film will exert a positive influence on society.

推し活の「功」と「罪」

最近、精神科医たちが、推し活の功罪について解説しているコンテンツをいくつか見る機会があった。

「功」についての話で言うと、引きこもりになった患者も、推し活という趣味があると社会復帰につながりやすいらしい。

一方、「罪」について言うと、依存症になってしまい、過度な金銭を費やして生活が破綻してしまう患者がいるらしい。

どちらもあり得る話のように思う。私自身は推し活に深く触れたことがないのだけれど、傍目にも強烈な活動なので、良し悪しを問わず人間に強い影響を与えるだろう。自分の人生をかけて他人の人生を推すエネルギーはすごい。

他人の人生より、自分の人生を推したい

ただ、いずれにせよ個人的には、他人の人生を推すくらいならば、自分の人生を推したい。

例えば、推し活に使う時間やお金を資格や技能の取得や投資に費やすと、リターンはかなり大きいものになる。財産や技能が増えることによって生じる安心感や達成感は、推し活から得られる興奮に勝るとも劣らないのでは、と予想している。

他人の人生はコントロールできない

ヤフーニュースで、十年以上応援していたアイドルが突然結婚してしまい、強いショックを受けるファンの記事を読んだ。

他人の人生を推しても、他人の人生をコントロールできないし、そもそも推していた人の幸せを喜べない心理状況に陥るのも辛そうである。

自己研鑽などにお金や時間を費やしても、思い通りになるとは限らないのは一緒と言えば一緒なのだけれど、自分でコントロールできる範囲に置いて行う活動と、他人に対する推し活とでは、質的に大きな違いがある。

思い通りにならなかったときも、「これが自分の人生」という覚悟は、実は持ちやすい気がしている。

The Benefits and Drawbacks of Oshikatsu

Recently, I had the opportunity to watch several pieces of content in which psychiatrists discussed the benefits and drawbacks of oshikatsu, activities centered around supporting one's favorite person or celebrity.

Speaking of the "benefits," apparently even patients who have become socially withdrawn are more likely to return to society if they have oshikatsu as a hobby.

On the other hand, as for the "drawbacks," there are apparently patients who develop an addiction, spend excessive amounts of money, and end up having their lives fall apart.

Both seem like things that could happen. I have never been deeply involved in oshikatsu myself, but from an outside perspective, it is an intense activity, so it must have a powerful influence on people, whether for better or worse. The energy required to devote one's life to supporting someone else's life is remarkable.

I Would Rather Support My Own Life Than Someone Else's

In any case, personally, if I were going to support someone else's life, I would rather support my own.

For example, if I spent the time and money I use for oshikatsu on obtaining qualifications and skills or on investments, the returns could be quite substantial. I imagine that the sense of security and accomplishment that comes from increasing one's assets and skills could be no less rewarding than the excitement gained from oshikatsu.

You Cannot Control Someone Else's Life

I read an article on Yahoo News about a fan who was deeply shocked when an idol they had supported for more than ten years suddenly got married.

Even if you support someone else's life, you cannot control that person's life. It also sounds painful to end up in a psychological state where you cannot even be happy for the happiness of the person you have been supporting.

Spending money and time on self-improvement does not guarantee that things will go as planned, so in that sense, the two are similar. However, there is a fundamental qualitative difference between an activity that you undertake within the range of things you can control and supporting someone else.

Even when things do not go as planned, I feel that it is actually easier to accept the attitude of, "This is my life."

今週放送された『アメトーーク！』の「ダチョウ倶楽部を考えよう！2026」が、非常に見ごたえのある素晴らしい内容だった。

番組はタイトルの通りダチョウ倶楽部が主役で、太田プロの後輩である有吉弘行、劇団ひとり、土田晃之といった面々も抜群の活躍を見せていた。しかし、そうした実力派たちを差し置いて、個人的に最も強烈な存在感を放っていたのが霜降り明星の粗品だ。史上最年少でM-1グランプリを制したその実力は伊達ではないと、あらためて感心させられた。

芸風の違いを超えた全力のパフォーマンス

番組内での粗品は、亡くなった上島竜兵のポジションに入り、ダチョウ倶楽部の伝統的なギャグに繰り返し参加する役割を担っていた。ダチョウ倶楽部といえば、ベタでバカバカしく、時にシュールな笑いが真骨頂だ。一方で粗品は、ロジカルで分析的な笑いを得意としており、両者の芸風は対極にあると言っていい。

それでも彼は、決して斜に構えたり無茶振りをかわしたりすることなく、真っ向から全力でダチョウ倶楽部のギャグに飛び込み、しっかりと爆笑をさらっていった。その姿勢は見事というほかない。

「振りをすかさない」プロ意識

以前どこかで、「粗品の最大の強みは、笑いの振りを決してすかさないことだ」という話を聞いたことがある。どんな振りにも正面から答えることを信条にしているからこそ、ダチョウ倶楽部という異色のフィールドでも恐れずに食らいつき、確実に笑いへと昇華させることができるのだろう。一人の芸人として、実に素晴らしいプロ意識だと思う。

圧倒的な実力へのリスペクト

粗品は時にスキャンダラスで過激な発言も多いため、好き嫌いがはっきりと分かれるタイプだし、私自身も彼の言動すべてを肯定するわけではない。また粗品に限らず、お笑い芸人全般に対しては「どこかインモラルな部分を抱えているものだ」という冷めた視線も持っており、全面的に心酔することはない。

そうした留保をつけつつも、彼の笑いの才能と圧倒的な実力は、素人目で見ても認めざるを得ないすごさがある。観終わった後、思わず熱くブログに感想を書き残したくなるほどの強烈なインパクトを残してくれた。

This week's episode of Ametalk!, titled "Let's Think About Dachou Club! 2026," was a thoroughly engaging and magnificent broadcast.

True to its title, Dachou Club took center stage, with junior talent from Ohta Production—such as Hiroiki Ariyoshi, Gekidan Hitori, and Teruyuki Tsuchida—delivering stellar performances. Yet, even among such an established group of veterans, Soshina of Shimofuri Myojo radiated the most powerful presence. I was deeply impressed once again, realizing that his status as the youngest champion in M-1 Grand Prix history is well deserved.

Going All-Out Beyond Differences in Comedy Styles

During the show, Soshina stepped into the late Ryuhei Ueshima's position, taking on the role of repeatedly joining Dachou Club's traditional comedy routines. Dachou Club's true mastery lies in silly, slapstick, and occasionally surreal humor. Soshina, by contrast, thrives on logical and analytical comedy, making their styles polar opposites.

Even so, rather than acting cynical or dodging absurd setups, he threw himself headfirst into Dachou Club's gags with complete commitment and landed huge laughs. His dedication was nothing short of brilliant.

Professionalism in Never Dodging a Setup

I recall hearing somewhere that Soshina's defining strength is that he never dodges or brushes off a comic setup. Because his personal philosophy is to confront every setup head-on, he was able to go toe-to-toe with Dachou Club in their distinct realm and seamlessly elevate their bits into genuine comedy. As an entertainer, his professionalism is truly remarkable.

Respect for Undeniable Comedy Talent

Since Soshina frequently makes controversial and provocative remarks, opinions about him are sharp-edged, and I certainly do not endorse every statement he makes. 一方、甘さを抑えた辛口のお酒だと、菊正宗の樽酒があって、それを気に入ることができたのは収穫だった。スーパーでも買いやすく、食事にも比較的あわせやすいので、これは今後も飲むことが比較的あるかも。

あと甘いお酒の中でも、にごり酒は結構気に入ったので、これも買い続けるかもしれない。にごり酒は、フルーティさではなく、お米自体の甘みが出ている感じがして、清涼飲料水では代替できないような感じがした。試したなかでは、讃岐クラウディというにごり酒が印象的だったが、スーパーで売っている白川郷というお酒も先日買ってみたので今度試してみるつもり。

Nigori sake feels like it brings out the sweetness of the rice itself rather than a fruity sweetness, giving the impression that it cannot be replaced by soft drinks. Among those I tried, a Nigori sake called Sanuki Cloudy left a strong impression on me, and since I recently bought a bottle called Shirakawago at the supermarket, I plan to try it next time.

NHKから配信されているテレビ体操を利用している時期もあったのだけれども、ちょっと優等生的な番組なこともあってか、飽きて習慣が途絶えてしまったので、今日はYouTubeで見つけたなかやまきんに君のチャンネルにあったエクササイズ動画を使ってみた。

有酸素運動と筋トレをミックスしたものらしく、10分という短い時間ながら、運動不足な自分にとっては、終了後に腕がプルプルするくらいのよい負荷が加わったので、なかなかよかった。次回もまた見るかもしれない。

運動の途中で広告が入ってしまうのは玉に瑕だけれども、YouTubeの無料会員であることを思えばしかたなく、図々しい苦情と言える。気になれば有料会員になればよい話だし。

私はNetflixの広告なしプランの有料会員なので、Netflixにエクササイズ動画があるのが一番よい気がするが、軽く検索した限りでは無さそうである。昔、検索したときはアメリカの動画があった気がするのだがいつの間にかなくなっていた。Netflixの利用者が求める視聴対象は映画やドラマであって、エクササイズ動画なんかは配信を積極的に行う理由に乏しいのだろう。これは仕方ない。

The Blessing of At-Home Exercise Videos

Exercise videos that can be done at home are a true blessing, especially at this time of year. Exercising outside under the scorching sun runs the risk of collapsing from heatstroke, while leaving the house to go to the gym is difficult due to family commitments.

If you can work out in your air-conditioned living room while watching freely streamed videos, all of these challenges can be overcome at once.

There was a time when I used the TV exercise programs broadcast by NHK, but perhaps because the show felt a bit too straight-laced, I got bored and the habit fizzled out. So today, I tried an exercise video I found on Nakayama Kinnikun's YouTube channel.

It seems to be a mix of aerobic exercise and strength training. Even though it was short—just 10 minutes—it provided a solid workout for someone as out of shape as me, leaving my arms trembling by the end, which was quite good. I might watch it again next time.

The mid-workout advertisements are a minor flaw, but given that I am using a free YouTube account, it is unavoidable and admittedly an impudent complaint. If it bothers me enough, I can simply subscribe to a paid membership.

Since I am a paying subscriber to Netflix's ad-free plan, having exercise videos on Netflix would be ideal, but a quick search yielded no results. I recall seeing American workout videos when I searched in the past, but they seem to have disappeared before I realized it. Netflix users are mainly looking for movies and TV dramas, so there is likely little reason for the platform to actively stream workout content. That is just the way it goes.

先日、『週刊プレイボーイ』2026年34・35合併号を読んだので、気になった記事の感想をメモとして残しておきたい。

島根県警により「トクリュウ」の一味であるという濡れ衣を着せられ、厳しい取り調べを受けた男性の記事が痛ましい。日本の司法において自白が過度に重視され、適切な取り調べが行われていない現状には強い懸念を覚える。アメリカのように弁護士立ち会いのもとで取り調べを受ける仕組みなどを参考に、他国の制度を見習ってより近代的な体制へ移行すべきではないだろうか。最近では再審制度の見直しに関するニュースも目にするが、問題点が頻繁に報じられているにもかかわらず改善が進まない現状は、極めて深刻な課題だと感じている。

続いて、猛暑下での現場作業に関する記事も印象的だった。窓清掃の際、洗浄水を塗ってもすぐに乾いてしまうため、小刻みに拭き取らざるを得ず作業効率が悪化しているという。現場で働く方々の苦労がしのばれる。地球温暖化の防止は急務だが、アメリカのトランプ大統領の姿勢を踏まえると、世界的な対策がスムーズに進むのか不安が残るところだ。

去年（2025年）も参加させてもらったので今年も興味はあったのだけれども、8月9日の時点で2回しかブログを更新できていなかった。毎日更新は無理になったなぁ、と思ったが、まぁ普段よりもたくさんブログを更新する月、とイベント参加の目標を個人的に捉え直せばよいか、と思い、その後は更新頻度を高めてきた。

そして8月は今年一番更新した月になって、これでブログの更新が途絶えても、（自分のなかの）ブローガストの目標は達成できたことになったので、今更だけれども参加表明してみた。

継続しやすい目標設定のコツ

話は発散するけれど、何か目標を立てるときは、後から挽回可能な目標にするのが続けやすさの点では適当と思う。毎日何かをやる、という目標にしてしまうと、一度できない日が出た時点で挽回できず失敗が確定してしまうので。一年に365回何かをする、という目標の方が個人的にはベターかな。その点では8月に31回ブログを更新できれば真の意味でブローガストに参加したことになるかもしれない（ただ、今年それはちょっと無理かもしれない）。

Partaking in Blaugust (Just Lightly)

I am participating (albeit very lightly) in an event called Blaugust. Blaugust is a portmanteau combining "blog" and "August," and it appears to be a global initiative where participants write a blog post once a day. In Japan, it has been introduced and popularized by "Nejimaki."

Having participated last year (2025), I was interested again this year. However, as of August 9th, I had only updated my blog twice. Thinking to myself that daily posting was no longer feasible, I figured I could simply reframing my personal goal for the event as "a month in which I update my blog more frequently than usual," and since then, I have stepped up my posting frequency.

As a result, August has become the month with the highest number of posts for me this year. Even if my updates stall now, I have satisfied my own personal goal for Blaugust, so better late than never, I decided to officially announce my participation.

Tips for Setting Goals That Are Easy to Sustain

To digress a bit, when setting goals, I believe it is appropriate in terms of sustainability to make them recoverable after the fact. If you set a goal to do something every single day, missing even a single day leaves you unable to make up for it, rendering it a failure. Personally, setting a goal like "doing something 365 times a year" seems better. In that sense, if I could publish 31 blog posts in August, I might genuinely qualify as a true participant in Blaugust (though that might be a bit out of reach for me this year).

落語のニュースが目に留まる理由

落語に興味を持ち始めると、落語に関するニュースを目にする機会が増えてきた。私自身がこれまで見逃してきたニュースに目を留めるようになったという意識の変化もあるだろうし、落語についてネットで検索などをしているうちに、Googleなどのアルゴリズムが落語のニュースを積極的に表示するようになったせいもあるのだろう。

今回気になったのは、「現代の価値観では不道徳とされる噺を、現代の観客にも受け入れられるように落語家が改変している」というニュースだ。落語には昔から受け継がれている古典があるが、大筋が同じであれば細部は噺家によって比較的自由に変えられているという認識があり、今回の改変もその延長線上にあるものなのだろうと思う。

改変に対する反発と古典を守る立場

ただ、コメンテーターとしても有名なある落語家は、このような改変に反対の立場をとっており、「芸術への冒涜である」と舌鋒鋭く批判していた。

コメンテーターという仕事は、世論に対して強く訴えかけて注目を集めるのが役割のような側面もあるため、発言のトーンが強いこと自体は差し引いて見る必要がある。しかし、先述したように「噺を変えることは落語の常である」という私の認識からすると、一見妥当とも思える改変に対してここまで強く拒絶する態度は、少し気になるところだ。

おそらく、過去の作品を当時の価値観ではなく現代の価値観で裁くこと自体が傲慢である、という考えが背景にあるのだろう。価値観は時代とともに変化していくものだから、現代の基準に適応できないという理由だけで排除していけば、どんな名作であってもすぐに「不適切」という評価を受けてしまうことになる。

現代の観客の共感と大衆芸能のあり方

しかし、現在の価値観で差別的とされるような事象についても、当時すでにその対象とされた人々――例えば女性などは、弱い立場で苦しんでいたはずだ。そうした弱い立場の人々に配慮する人権意識が当時は欠如しており、笑いの対象にできていたという時代背景を知識として理解したうえで、その噺を芸術として鑑賞することは可能かもしれない。だが、彼女たちに共感する現代の観客が、その噺を大衆芸能として素直に笑えるかどうかは別の問題ではないだろうか。

過去の名作を時代背景を踏まえて後世に伝えるという「古典の伝道師」としての役割も理解できる。しかし、時代の変化に合わせて解釈や切り口を変え、噺を大衆の中で活かし続けることのほうが、結果として名作を長く生き返らせるのではないだろうか。そうすれば、大衆芸能として噺の変化を楽しみつつ、当時のオリジナルに思いを馳せる人も現れるはずだ。

笑いの中に求められる謙虚さ

誰も傷つかない笑いなど存在しないし、笑いとはそもそも不道徳さをはらんでいるものだから、配慮ばかりでは窮屈だと感じる人もいるかもしれない。しかし、ある噺が不道徳だと受け止められるのは、笑いの対象となった人々が今なお弱い立場に置かれがちだからでもある。「面白ければそれでよく、何も考えずに笑えばいい」という割り切りは、もはや難しいのではないか。笑いながらも、それを笑う自分自身の傲慢さを振り返るくらいの謙虚さは持ち合わせていたいものだ。

Why I Notice Rakugo News More Often

As I began to take an interest in rakugo, I started coming across news related to it far more frequently. Part of this is likely a shift in my own awareness, making me notice stories I used to overlook. Additionally, as I searched for rakugo online, algorithms like Google's probably began actively showing me relevant news.

A recent story that caught my attention was about how rakugo storytellers are modifying traditional stories that are considered immoral by modern standards so that contemporary audiences can accept them. Although rakugo relies on classic tales handed down over generations, my understanding has always been that as long as the main plot remains intact, storytellers are free to alter the details. To me, these recent changes seem to fit naturally within that tradition.

Pushback Against Adaptations and Preserving the Classics

However, a famous rakugo practitioner who also works as a commentator strongly opposed these revisions, sharply declaring them to be "a blasphemy against art."

Since part of a commentator’s job is to make strong appeals to public opinion to grab attention, one must take the harsh tone with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, given my understanding that tweaking stories is standard practice in rakugo, his fierce rejection of revisions that seem reasonable was intriguing.

Presumably, his stance is grounded in the belief that judging historical works through the lens of modern values rather than the ethics of their time is inherently arrogant. Values inevitably evolve, so if we discard works simply because they fail to align with present-day standards, even undisputed masterpieces will quickly be labeled inappropriate.

Modern Audiences' Empathy and the Nature of Popular Entertainment

That said, regarding matters now viewed as discriminatory, those targeted—such as women—were suffering in vulnerable positions even back then. While it is possible to appreciate a story as art by understanding the historical context—a time when human rights awareness was lacking and marginalized groups were routinely turned into objects of mockery—whether modern audiences who empathize with them can genuinely laugh at such tales as popular entertainment is a completely different matter.

I understand the role of a classicist preserving historical masterpieces for posterity alongside their original context. Yet, adapting interpretations and angles to keep these stories alive among the general public seems like a more effective way to ensure their longevity. By doing so, people can enjoy the evolution of rakugo as popular entertainment while reflecting on the original forms from that era.

The Humility Required in Humor

There is no humor that leaves everyone unharmed, and laughter inherently carries a touch of immorality, so constant consideration might feel suffocating to some. However, when a story is perceived as immoral, it is often because the people being laughed at remain vulnerable today. The mindset that "as long as it's funny, nothing else matters and we should just laugh mindlessly" no longer seems viable. Even as we laugh, we should retain enough humility to reflect on our own arrogance in finding amusement in such things.

休日の朝風呂

休日に早起きできたので、まだ寝ている家族を家に残し、自転車に乗ってスーパー銭湯の朝風呂に行ってきた。

うろ覚えであるが、どこかの国に「一日気分良く過ごしたければ床屋に行け」ということわざがあったと思う。床屋も悪くないけれども、私なら「一日気分良く過ごしたければ朝風呂に入れ」と言いたい。

朝にシャワーを浴びる人は多いと思うけれど、シャワーの場合は、寝汗をお湯で流すことを目的とした単なる作業感がある（私の場合は）。一方で、朝風呂は、単なる作業以上に、心身をリフレッシュさせることを目的とした、もっと有意義な活動というニュアンスが生じると思う。

そうすると、朝わざわざ早く起きて一仕事終えた達成感が生まれ、自己肯定感を上げることができる。また、日内変動により、朝は一番鬱々とした気持ちになりやすいけれど、風呂に入っていると、気持ちの落ち込みが幾分和らぐようにも思う。昔はよく仕事に行く前に家で風呂に入って、朝に特有の気持ちの落ち込みを立て直す時間に充てていた。

スーパー銭湯の朝風呂はお得

ここで話を冒頭のスーパー銭湯に戻すと、朝風呂は早朝の特別サービスなので、通常の料金の半額以下になるし、あまり混んでいないのもありがたい。1時間半かけて、風呂とサウナをじっくり楽しむことができた。

家でも朝風呂は有効だけれど、アクティビティやレジャー感を出すなら、やはり温浴施設に行くのが一番だと思う。

朝風呂を目的に泊まる

スーパー銭湯やサウナ施設のいくつかでは、夜に泊まれる施設があって、朝にスムーズに風呂に入ることを目的に、そのような施設に用もなく泊まることもある。

A Morning Bath on a Day Off

I managed to get up early on my day off, so I left my family sleeping at home and rode my bicycle to a super sento for an early-morning bath.

I vaguely remember that there is a proverb somewhere in the world that goes something like, “If you want to have a good day, go to the barber.” Going to the barber isn't a bad idea, but if you ask me, I would say, “If you want to have a good day, take a morning bath.”

I think many people take a shower in the morning, but in my case, a shower feels like a routine chore whose purpose is simply to wash away the sweat from the night. A morning bath, on the other hand, feels more like a meaningful activity intended to refresh both the mind and body, rather than just another chore.

That way, getting up early in the morning and accomplishing something before the day has even begun gives me a sense of achievement and can boost my self-esteem.
