アプリの「手軽さ」と電子辞書の黄昏

スマホアプリの英語辞書を買い足して、国語辞典も新規で購入した。オーレックス英和・和英辞典と旺文社国語辞典だ。

電子辞書も持っているのだけれども、アプリのほうが持ち運ぶ手間がなくて良いので、少しずつアプリの辞書を買い足していこうと思っている。ちなみに電子辞書の大手であるカシオではもう新しい機種の開発はしないそうで、電子辞書も時代の流れで消えていく運命なのかもしれない……。

話を戻すが、アンドロイドの辞書アプリはロゴビスタという会社が大手で、ここからいろいろな辞書データが販売されている。

新しい辞書データを販売するときは割引してくれるので、新発売の辞書を買っていくのが良い戦略だと思っている。辞書というのは通常、新しいもののほうが良いとされているしね。

Perhaps these dedicated devices are destined to fade into obsolescence, swept away by the inexorable tide of the times.

They typically offer discounts when launching new dictionary data, so I deem it a prudent strategy to acquire these dictionaries upon their debut. After all, it is generally posited that when it comes to dictionaries, the more contemporary, the better.
